The Travel & Tourism Industry has a variety of sectors that include Retail Travel, Wholesale Travel, Visitor Information,Tour Operators, Cruising, Transportation, Events and Services. Each industry sector has a range of job roles. There are jobs that are visible that you may come across when you book a holiday like a Travel Agent and the ones that are not so visible like a Wholesaler who works behind the scenes putting the holiday packages together.

Qualification
There are various level of manpower required in travel and tourism industry like counter clerk/counter assistant, senior assistant, Junior Executive, District Sales Manager, region Deputy General Manager, etc. The higher the post one seeks, the better should be the qualifications. Experience is definitely an advantage, but on-the-job training is also given to new entrants. For clerks or tourist guides or escorts, graduation in travel and tourism and on the job training with a travel agency or certification course for IATTA / UFTAA / FIATTA(training for travel agents), the basic eligibility is 10+2. while candidates aspiring for managerial positions need a graduate degree.
Courses for travels and tourism in India- Bachelors Degree course in Airlines, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Tourism Administration, Bachelor of Tourism Studies, BTM (Hons), PG diploma course in Tourism Studies, Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Travel), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Leisure), PG program in Travel and Tourism, Master of Tourism Administration, Master of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Postgraduate diploma course in Tourism Management, M.A. in Tourism Management, Master of Tourism Management , Short time courses and refresher courses for guides and escorts, Language courses, etc.
The Indian Institutes of Travel and Tourism Management (IITM) offer short-term courses in this field. All major universities conduct diploma, bachelor, Masters or post graduation courses in travels and tourism. Travel and tourism companies like SOTC, Thomas cook, Cocks and kings, Indian airlines, TCI etc. are main employers.
