CAREER IN MEDICINE AND PARAMEDICS
INTRODUCTION

              Medicine offers  the opportunity to live a fulfilling, rewarding life dedicated to helping others. Doctors have always enjoyed a prominent position in the society and it is a well respected profession worldwide. Here is a short description of various courses in medicine and there qualifying exams -
MEDICAL ENTRANCE TESTS-
  1. All India pre-medical/ pre-dental entrance exam
  2. All india common Entrance examination (AICEE)
  3. Pre Medical tests conducted by Indian States
  4. Maharashtra Common Entrance test for Medical (MHT-CET)
  5. Armed forces Medical College Entrance exam (AFMC)
  6. Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
Eligibility-
The qualification required for entrance is 10+2 or equivalent with Science subjects.
Placements:
  • In Government or private hospitals
  • In Nursing homes/clinics/health departments
  • In medical services of the army, navy and air force, under the Ministry of Defense
  • In charitable institutions
  • In medical colleges and training institutes as teachers 
  • In research institutes and medical colleges as researchers
  • In the industrial sector
  • Private practice/self employment

             Other than MBBS courses, there are various streams of medicine science like Dentistry ,Psychiarty, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha, Unani etc. There are several paramedic courses-

X-Ray Technology and Radiology Involves the use of X-rays, high frequency sound waves etc. to scan the body's entrails.Medical Laboratory Technology is concerned with the collection, sampling, testing, reporting and documentation of laboratory investigations.Physiotherapy covers the use of exercises, related equipment, electrotherapy, magneto therapy, massage etc. to rebuild damaged muscles, ligaments & bones.Occupational Therapy trains in the rehabilitation of physically and mentally impaired persons.Optometry of Opthalmic Technology specialises in the treatment of disorders related to the eye.Prosthetic or Orthotic Engineering involves the replacement of missing parts of the body with artificial structures.Audiology and Speeth Therapy is concerned with correcting speech defects.Clinical Child Development is concerned with nutrition and treatment of growth defects in children.
